So, EDF 2017 looks like a pretty simple game. In fact, it -is- a pretty simple game. You've got guns, go shoot some stuff. But few games can truly nail down the experience of "Holy crap, how am I supposed to -do- this?" without being obnoxious and making you hate the game you're playing.
Earth Defense force did it. So, I've fought several hundred (IT FELT THAT WAY IN MY HEAD OKAY?) ants and giant robots, but now I'm looking up in the sky, and it's a giant orb, flying over Tokyo. And from it, the panels that made up it began to disconnect, floating just outside it, and more and more panels began to open up, some smaller, some bigger. my friend is busy looking around for any robots shooting at us, but I can't help but think this is a -bad- sign. Naturally, these panels start shooting their own laser beams.
Yea. Not very creative, but looking around as ants crawl up and over buildings around us, while we try to desperately fend them off and explosions tearing up the roads and buildings around us. It seemed hopeless, two guys (Those craptastic AI don't count.) against an entire army. But with enough rockets and bullets, and lots (lots) of running, we survived by the skin of our teeth (How does that even work?).
Point is, it was pretty awesome.
